The One With the One-Way Ticket

What am I doing?

This seems to be the question. The question everyone keeps asking me, including myself. The short answer is, I am leaving for the Dominican Republic on February 1st. Which, if you are reading this today, happens to be tomorrow. The first month I am there I will be living with a host family and taking Spanish classes at a school Monday- Friday with approximately 8 other people that I do not know yet. Then after that I will be working in a school of some sort, working with kids and doing mission work. The truth is I really do not know what I am doing. All I know is that I am suppose to get on the plane tomorrow at 10am and trust in God. Oh yeah, it’s also a one-way ticket.

As you can read in my bio, I have been doing missions since I was a senior in highschool. I am now 21 years old and have just recently graduated from college. When I am on mission trips I feel like I am fulfilling my purpose in life. I feel like I am doing what God has put me on this earth to do. Life is so much simpler, yet so much more meaningful. You are living in very simple living conditions, sometimes sleeping on floors, or taking showers with a bucket. Most of the time you are not “comfortable”. There are never a ton of extras. You come to realize how little joy you actually get from watching netflix, or eating junk food whenever you want, or having fancy clothes or keeping up with the latest “cool new item”.  You start to realize how much peace you have without all those shiny distractions in your life. You start to truly understand the beauty of simplicity. From playing soccer in the dirt for hours with neighborhood kids, to sitting and praying with the elderly, to coloring with children at the hospital. You learn to not invest your value of life into things, but rather people and memories. But the main reason I love missions so much is because when you take the worldly things out of your life you start to see God in the world more clearly than you ever have before.

So, I am leaving tomorrow. I know very little about what God has in store for me, but I know when He is the pilot and I am the co-pilot the destination is always better than anything I could ever imagine. So join me on an adventure! Feel free to write me if you feel the Holy Spirit leading you to tell me ANYTHING! Seriously, anything. Even if it’s just a lame joke. God has a perfect plan, and all things will be understood in the end!

Prayers are much appreciated! I will be praying for everyone reading this!
